ImageNet ======== Images of the earth are available through ImageNet, a service provided by Core Software Technology. These pages combine satellite imagery, aerial photography, vector data, and demographic data into one large network of information. The software lets you point to an area of the world and zoom in at higher and higher resolutions. When you've zoomed in as close as you want, the ImageNet system searches its database and comes up with images that best meet what you've requested. After you verify the coordinates and resolution, an image is retrieved and displayed on screen. It helps to know that repeated zoom-ins on the base map do not necessarily result in a more detailed image; the program only retrieves what is in the database. ImageNet's philosophy is to "combine data from many sources and make it available quickly and easily." The service is free on the Web now, but it might begin charging fees in the future. Ordering information is provided, along with e-mail contact information.
