FAQ: An Experiment in Remote Printing

This FAQ on the Web shows how users can send and receive free
faxes internationally or nationally via the Internet's e-mail
facilities. The FAQ discusses the TPC.INT network's experimental
project in remote printing and reveals how the network works.
Working together, many sites cooperatively provide "remote
printing" access to the international telephone network. This
allows people to send faxes via e-mail. The general-purpose
Internet e-mail infrastructure takes care of all the routing,
delivering the message to the appropriate remote printer gateway
in a manner totally transparent to the user. This site is
interesting reading for those who might wish to conduct business
or personal correspondence worldwide via fax at little or no cost.
Note that only a few countries and cities have set up "cells" for
fax coverage, so your choices for fax destinations are somewhat
limited. More and more cities and countries are being added,
however, and you can check the latest status report in the FAQ.
