Firefly

Want to find some music that you've never heard, maybe never even
heard of? Why not have Firefly make some suggestions? Spend some
time rating musicians and bands (you must use a forms-capable
browser). You have to register (it's free) so that the program can
keep track of your ratings each time you visit the site. The more
artists you rate the better chance you have of the program
matching your taste. When you think Firefly has enough information
to have a sense of your taste in music, click the box asking for
suggestions. In a minute or two you'll see a list of artists you
haven't rated before. The artificial intelligence engine here
selects musicians or bands rated highly by people whose ratings
have a high correlation to yours. After rating about a hundred
artists, Firefly came up with a much better approximation of this
reviewer's decidedly idiosyncratic tastes than expected. Earlier
versions of this program were called HOMR and Ringo, but the
current version is greatly improved.
