Alaska Volcano Observatory ========================== This site has images and descriptions about volcanoes in Alaska, including those of the Aleutian Islands. From the main menu, you can check out an interesting map of the Aleutian volcanic area that shows major eruptions dating back to 2.5 million years ago. Active volcanoes are also shown with the most recent eruption date. In the Highlights section, a chronology of the last six years of activity is given in the noted form of capsule descriptions. Information and photographs relating to the recent eruption at Mt. Spurr can be found here as well. The images can be enlarged and are accompanied by a detailed article. Note that to see the photographs of Mt. Spurr, one looks not in the Mt. Spurr section, but in the File 93-707 section.
