The documents available through this FTP from the Harvard
Economics Symposium Archive are related to the economics of
networking. There is a paper titled "Service Models and Pricing
Policies for an Integrated Services Internet" by Scott Shenker of
Xerox Corporation. There is also a paper called "Pricing the
Internet," by Hal Varian (of microeconomics textbook fame) and
Jeff Mackie-Mason from the University of Michigan. A third paper
included in the archive is called "The Economic Case for Public
Subsidy of the Internet," by Sandra Schickele from Sonoma State
University. All of the papers can be downloaded in .GZIP format;
some are postscript files and others are text files. You can get a
.GZIP decompression utility tool from
