Humanitarian assistance to people in need, whether in the throes
of war, natural disaster, or disease, is more urgent today than
ever before. Providing aid in emergencies requires networking on a
vast and difficult scale. The Internet provides an excellent
source for such activity and for all types of helpful discussion.
JHA is an important and widely-used forum in this area. Its
purpose is to gather helpful input from policy makers, academics,
rescue workers, military and legal experts, and other
practitioners. All areas of humanitarian assistance are covered:
early warning, emergency aid, post-conflict peace building, and
development. The emphasis is on policy debate and cooperation
both, with the stated aim to make available lessons learned from
prior and ongoing assistance efforts.
