"I started TBB (as my users affectionately called it) as part of
my search for knowledge about serial communications and
programming. No one in our local calling area had a BBS, and
access to online services were available only by a toll-call. TBB
first went online in the spring of 1990. Daily usership grew to
over 25 users at its peak around 1995, thanks primarily to a core
group of impulsive emailers (bless them!) who also liked to
compete in the online game 'doors'. Once the 'Net became a local
call away, usage dropped off sharply, I decided to pull the plug
on March 1st, 1999. I was blessed (?) with just about every type
of user that most SysOps discuss, from the file- and game-hungry
kid to the supportive 'Co-SysOps'. To mention any of them, I'd
have to mention them all. Together they made up an experience that
