Ask HN: Hacker News-like forum, specific to Game Development?

I'm a game development hobbyist and I'd love to find a community
similar to HN, where a mix of technology and industry-related news
is shared and discussed. Does something like this exist? Any other
communities or publications useful for someone interested in the
gamedev space? Bonus points if they have "Who is hiring" type
threads with actual participation from gamedevs, rather than the
typical job listings that are outdated and opaque. This was posted
2 years ago [1], and some good resources were shared there. Would
love to know if there are any new spaces to check out in 2024. [1]

       | Man, i was going to suggest the Rock, Paper, Shotgun forums, but
       | that site seems to have jumped hard on the enshittification
       | train; their forums don't exist anymore, and i'm not even gonna
       | link their site.

         | Agreed.
         |
         | Reddit has some game dev forums.
         | https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/ They're OK, not great.
         |
         | gamedeveloper.com doesn't have a forum.

           | The more technical forums seem to be platform-specific.
           | There's plenty of traffic on Unreal Engine and Unity forums,
           | specific to the ins and outs of those platforms.
           |
           | The forums for Rust game dev are very quiet lately.

       | Closest might be gamedev.net, but I'm not sure there's anything
       | out there that qualifies as a HN for game development.
       |
       | Might need to spread out. Go to engine-specific forums,
       | programming subdomains (eg, graphics programming), news and
       | industry etc.

       | There's https://hero.handmade.network/forums , which is sort of a
       | part of https://handmade.network/forums, which has a jobs board.
       | And there's an associated discord chat, and loosely associated

       | Also used to be good, newsground. Been around for a long time.
       | Big indie games hit started as jams/browser based experiments
       | there.
       |
       | It has a forum, some great threads come out, sometimes, such as
       | this one showing how an artists sketches for games:

       | Many aspects come into play for game dev, a catalog of games
       | built by the community is a great source of inspiration and can
       | lead to technical discussion and commenting. The whole artistry
       | side of things is a big part, text as a medium isn't ideal.
       | Newsground is a hub for all game related materials.
       |
       | For more technical threads and "professional" discussion I
       | suppose unreal/unity forums and channels are the defacto go to

       | I'd start with https://itch.io/

       | Then find a small community or maybe YouTuber and join their
       | discord. Try to find a smallish community of people in a similar
       | boat with similar qualifications as you. Lots of YouTubers with
       | discord communities. Try to find one of these and take from there
