| What a tangled web of fears we create and pull everyone into.
| Less shipping in 2021 caused less pollution which caused a rise
| in temperature. If we keep polluting the ocean enough perhaps we
| can reduce global temperature so we can protect the
| ocean/creatures from a global percentage of a degree increase.
|
| We are not saying the global temperature has gone up 1.5 degrees
| since you or anyone else you know has been born. We are saying we
| want to return to a time 150/200 years ago. The weather you
| experience now may go up .5 degrees. Why is everyone acting like
| the end of the world is near? We've already gone up 1.5 in the
| 1800s and we are better off for it.

| Well this year we're up 2.5 degrees here in Austria compared to
| the climate between 1960 and 1990. That's neither 200 years,
| nor 1.5 degrees. The last year below that 30 year average was
| 1996 [1].
|
| This is a big deal. The mountains are thawing and crumbling
| [2].

| The title suggests if the 1.5C mark is broken something bad will
| happen, but is that really the case? Or is it purely symbolic?

| Have any researchers anticipated such a rapid and dramatic

| Researchers can't anticipate everything.
|
| Each time a big wildfire happens by arson, the breaking point
| is rescheduled months, maybe years closer. So the yesterday
| models could develop into a situation like: we have 100 years
| to fix it -> we have 20 years -> we have 5 years. The models
| would be still true. Researchers can make models but can't
| anticipate that. nobody could.
|
| I suspect (This is just my own opinion) that the current
| repeated heat waves are, in part at least, an effect of the
| Ukraine war releasing lots of heat with all those bombs
| exploding each day for 2 years. If I'm right we will see the
| climate chilling a little in the year after the war (as long as
| the point of no return is not achieved). We will not know it
| until either the war is ended; or we end the job to break the
| climate beyond repair. Whatever happens first.

| Let's also remember the increased frequency of wildfires in
| general; Air quality in NE USA was pretty bad for a while and
| it was an abnormally hot period without lulls.

| There was an article here recently saying that the recent
| extreme heat was caused by an under water volcano shooting
| vasts amounts of water vapor to the stratosphere and that the
| warming caused by that event will subdue in 5-10 years.

| Can this data be allowed skewed in any way to support a better or

| points of precision would need move in order to invalidate?
| whaleofatw2022 wrote:
| Well, some folks could 'reductio ad temporum' and claim NY
| didn't wind up underwater so nothing to worry about right?

| Well, that's depressing.
