| Would appreciate openAI stops monopolizing the word AI, few years

| anything open AI, as long as it's isn't open source and always
| under their mercy for pricing, restrictions, etc., I would rather
| use something else that's community based.

| This website is not created by OpenAI and has nothing to do

|
| Are you sure you're not confusing OpenAPI and OpenAI? OpenAPI
| is a spec for HTTP APIs. Many AI applications are giving
| language models the capability to interact with OpenAPI
| documented APIs.
| AHOHA wrote:
| I know what OpenAPI is.. but now you mentioned the confusion
| part, I think I was confused as the domain is openpm.ai
| similar to openai. However, my point still there about how
| openAI tries to monopolize anything about AI.
|
| Thanks for the heads up by the way!

| Their direction is clear:
|
| * closed
|
| * pay per usage api to make money and have ability to shut down
| users
|
| * hide their research results
|
| * quickly build up data
|
| * quickly advance with Microsoft in bed
|
| * lobby law makers to regulate it
|
| * ...so entry barrier is higher for competition
|
| * ...so they secure as much pie for themselves as possible
|
| * exploit any other means to increase their dominant position
| and keep throwing rocks at others if possible
|
| They're open-for-business, not open-source.
|
| The best we can do is ignore them and support alternatives.
| AHOHA wrote:
| Exactly why I personally never used their API

| Aka:
|
| OpenAI: we welcome regulation

| EU: https://softwarecrisis.dev/letters/the-truth-about-the-

|
| OpenAI: no-no-no, not like that

| This looks like it works with Chatgpt. Any plans to make it work
| with the rest of the LLM landscape? Langchain integration for
| example would be great for adoption.
| maccaw wrote:
| We've made it pretty abstract, so it should play nicely with
| langchain etc. We're all open-source and using open protocols
| like OpenAPI.
|
| You make a good point though. We should write a langchain
| plugin to our API.
| lionkor wrote:
| In what way is OpenAI an "open protocol"?
| thomc wrote:
| They said OpenAPI is an open protocol, not OpenAI.
| mcmcmc wrote:
| So this is just an API hub right? Nothing seems particularly AI
| other than the marketing. There are more non-AI APIs than AI
| related ones in the search preview
| maccman wrote:
| We have also published two packages to help you get started.
|
| Cloudflare worker for building AI plugins.
|
| WorkGPT - framework for working with GPT functions.
|
| Everything is open source.
| croes wrote:
| Is there any kind of security review or is it a new kind of npm
| that is open to supply chain attacks.
|
| Considering what kind of data people are giving to AI, security
| is an important issue
| andybak wrote:
| Can you clarify what an "AI plugin" is?
| spencerchubb wrote:
| I am wondering the same thing
| Wingy wrote:
| Looks to me that by AI they mean ChatGPT.
| andybak wrote:
| Yes but these are APIs - not specifically ones with GPT
| plugins?
|
| I'm really not sure...
|
| EDIT - they are APIs with the neccesary metadata to be used
| as GPT plugins.
|
| I was confused by the fact they aren't listed in GPT when
| you're in plugin mode - but that's just the officially vetted
| list.
|
| (Before that I was confused by the interchangable use of
| "plugin" and "api" and the the use of "AI" when OP
| specifically seems to mean "ChatGPT"...)
