       | Eaglercraft is a pirated version of Minecraft that was ported to
       | the web.

         | Eaglercraft is a proof that it's possible to apply changes in
         | Minecraft Java source and wasm-compile it. Isn't that so cool?
         |
         | The main developers of Eaglercraft have done great work that
         | deserves to be archived. And it seems that it isn't illegal to
         | do reverse engineering on Minecraft Java Edition.
         |
         | I don't known the community around Eaglercraft, but I guess
         | that the illegal issues come from people who don't care about
         | software development and serves tons of static sites with
         | Eaglercraft client but mostly ad$.
         |
         | I don't think that Eaglercraft is illegal but some uses are
         | made of it. Spigot and other servers are not illegal. But if
         | someone publish a software for dev purposes to run Spigot
         | server which allow to join without mojang auth: this is where
         | that dishonest persons comes in.

         | Here, we're talking about tools that can format shift Minecraft
         | binaries to the web. The repos themselves contain no Minecraft
         | code, I believe.
         |
         | There are obvious IPR concerns (EULA, derivative work, etc),
         | but it's not a "pirated version" in the conventional sense.

         | And Minecraft is a computer game one can no longer play legally
         | after microsoft bought it (without creating a microsoft

           | Who is the pirate here? The former developers or the users?

             | Mojang owns Minecraft. People who have a license to play
             | the game can still pirate the game if they download the
             | game from someone who does not have the rights to
             | distribute the game. Eaglercraft did not even require
             | someone to own an account to run.

           | Before to legally play it you had to create a Mojang account
           | and before that you had to make a Minecraft account.
           | Minecraft has always required an account.

             | Quite a few of us migrated to ms accounts, only to get
             | blocked and the minecraft username/account ransomed until
             | we gave Microsoft our mobile phone numbers due to
             | "suspicious activity".
