| Whoah! Somehow I completely missed the era of bitbanged serial
| protocols over conventional joyport pins. That's wild. Breathed a
| few more years of relevance into that old thing.
|
| I recently ran across a sale price on a brand-new Logitech
| Extreme 3D Pro USB joystick, which looks identical to the one I
| purchased in 1999 or thereabouts (also on sale as it was already
| an old unit), and which I believe to have been one of the first
| wave of natively-USB joysticks. If it really is the same unit, I
| think that would make it one of the oldest PC peripherals still
| in production, at probably 25 years or more.
|
| Being that the Game Port Adapter was available in 1981 for the
| first IBM PC, do you have a sense of when the _last_
| analog/joyport joystick went out of production? Has USB now
| outlived its predecessor? (Of course joysticks and paddles were
| available for previous systems, but I think we're speaking
| strictly of the PC universe here.)

| There are still new controllers for retro consoles (like the
| NES, SNES, Genesis) that used traditional serial or parallel
| ports being manufactured. I just bought a newly made SNES
| mouse, in fact.
|
| I'm not aware of a similar market for retro PC controllers, but
| I do know people who've modded PC fightsticks (note: not
| flightsticks) to the neogeo-style game port for use with arcade
| boards.

| I have some really great flight sticks and steering wheels from
