| I really doubt caffeine is an exception to this, and its
| mechanism of action, and what we know about caffeine performance
| enhancement (very short term) suggests that is the case. This may
| be a bit of an over the top comparison, but the two-cups-every-
| morning type isn't unlike the heroin junkie who needs a good dose

| That's not to say I don't drink coffee. I'll also probably take
| morphine if I ever break something unpleasant and it really
| hurts. In both cases, they've got real uses, but it's a
| situational thing, and usually best done sparingly for no longer
| than necessary. Though, fortunately, caffeine addiction usually
| results in no more than irritated coworkers, headaches and the
| accumulated health debt of chronic sleep deprivation. (Something
| sleep-related is often the underlying reason someone feels they
| need caffeine regularly, anyway.)
