More about the NOAA Space Weather Scales G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Storming Observed [G4] G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Storming Observed published: Thursday, October 10, 2024 21:40 UTC The geomagnetic storm continues as G4 (Severe) levels were reached a second time due to continuing CME passage. Storm conditions are anticipated to occur overnight as CME progression continues. Variations due to CME passage will result in periods of weakening and escalation in geomagnetic storm levels. Continue to monitor our webpage for the latest information and updates. Update 2024-10-10 15:12 MDT: * Effects continue from the Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that reached the Earth earlier today (October 10th, at 11 AM EDT). * SWPC continues to issue multiple Warnings and Alerts for geomagnetic storm conditions. G4 conditions are still occurring at this time. * A G4 or greater Geomagnetic Storm Watch remains in effect today and into Friday. * There is still a possibility that we could reach G5 (Extreme) levels, although the likelihood of this is decreasing. * SWPC continues close coordination with the North American power grid operators, satellite operators, and emergency responders working in the areas damaged by Helene and Milton.
