But Framework has launched several upgrades since then, allowing customers to either buy a new laptop with a faster Intel or AMD processor or purchase a new mainboard to upgrade the processor in their existing laptop. Now Framework is doing it again. The company is taking pre-orders for new Framework Laptop 13 models with Intel Core Ultra "Meteor Lake-H" processor options. And if you don't want to buy a whole laptop, you can also buy a new Meteor Lake mainboard. [framework-13_02-698x500] Framework is offering models with a choice of Intel Core Ultra 5 125H, Core Ultra 7 155H, or Core Ultra 7 165H processor options. Each of those chips features Intel Arc integrated graphics and an Intel AI Boost NPU with support for hardware-accelerated AI capabilities. As usual, customers can purchase a pre-configured system (with memory and storage), a DIY edition laptop (without memory and storage), or a mainboard. They're up for pre-order now and should begin shipping in August. But in addition to a new processors, the new Core Ultra Series 1 mainboards bring a couple of other improvements including support for up to 96GB of DDR5 memory and a redesigned thermal system with updated fan control algorithms "to keep the system cooler while reducing noise." New display and webcam options The company is also now offering two display options: a 13.5 inch, 2256 x 1504 pixel, 60 Hz matte display or a 13.5 inch, 2880 x 1920 pixel, 120 Hz matte display with rounded corners (3mm at the top and 1mm at the bottom). [display-609x500] Framework is selling the new 2.8K display as an option for Framework Laptop 13 DIY Edition models, but you can also pre-order a 2.8K display kit for $269 to upgrade the screen on an existing Framework Laptop 13. [camera-605x500] There's also a new webcam with a 9.2MP image sensor that's configured to group four subpixels together for better light sensitivity, enabling better performance for 1080p video. The microphones have also been improved. Price drops for older models Framework has also lowered the starting price for 13 inch laptops with AMD Ryzen 7040 series or 13th-gen Intel Core processors, and added configuration options for the AMD models that include the new 2.8K display, 2nd-gen camera, and 61 battery. Expansion Cards Framework's 13 inch laptops also continue to have a modular design that lets you use up to four different Expansion Cards at a time. [expansion-750x500] These modules connect to Thunderbolt/USB4 ports on the mainboard, allowing you to choose which ports you want to use, and where they're positioned. There are also Expansion Cards that let you add 250GB or 1TB of storage to the laptop, and Framework has introduced several new USB-C Expansion Cards that come in red, green, orange, and lavender color options.
