A pursuit of simplicity
Mindless software extremists, like the folks at suckless.org, believe
that simplicity is gained through frugality, focusing only for those
who are "advanced and experienced". They call themselves hackers, but
thrive on alienating the "less experienced", according to them, to
fuel their ego and false superiority. They think their software truly
sucks less, but they just live in their delusion.
So what if most software is bloated, according to them? I'm not going
to sell you a brand new manifesto about how everything's fucked and
yadda-yadda.
All I'm going to tell you is to do things. Don't create out of
resentment, create out of love. Don't make your decisions out of
peer-pressure, which framework is good and which one isn't, which
language is the less bloated or which Linux distro sucks less.
We are much better than that. Do things with what you have, what you
know, etc. If you really want to see simplicity, read about
permacomputing, and about Hundred Rabbits' mission.
