Shortbread is a startup building an AI-powered comics creation engine
and platform. We are venture-backed by top-tier seed investors
including Y Combinator and Village Global. With Shortbread.ai, anyone
can create comics within minutes from a browser.

We love visual stories and think everyone should have the power to
create their own Batman, Slam Dunk, and Sailor Moon. We are looking
for creative and innovative technologists to build together the
future of comics.

About the role

We're looking for a founding engineer who can build robust systems
from ground up, is not afraid of hacking and expanding the boundaries
of existing technology, a team player and visual thinker. We ask that
you have a strong and proven track record building in frontend
interaction, and experience in full-stack development.

Responsibilities

Independently research, design, and develop solutions to satisfy
product requirements of the comics engine.
Test, monitor and optimize solutions and performance on a variety of
browsers.
Help deploy and maintain backend systems for our machine learning
services.
Implement best practices in system design, code quality, and ensure a
reliable, secure, and maintainable system.

Requirements

Proven track record of fast building and deploying pixel-perfect
frontend apps, or machine learning systems.
3+ years of experience with frontend development in React and
Typescript, and:
2+ years of full-stack development experience.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to a
rapidly evolving startup environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
with a team, as well as independently.

Nice-to-haves:

Experience with generative AI models.
Experience deploying machine learning models on GPU stacks.
Self-motivated learner who likes to keep up with the latest in AI and
browser tech.
Passion for comics, manga, webtoons, anime, or visual storytelling
games.

Our engine is written in React, Typescript and Next.js. Our AI models
are implemented in Python. Backend servers are Node.
