It had a super distinct smell that no other weed smells like. By the time I got to college in 2009 it seemed to be replaced by "headies", "loud" or "exotic". Went to a mostly black college just in case you aren't familiar with the vernacular. By 2010 my dear friend KB seemed to be non existent. Weed was getting better. "Mids" and its cheap $10 a g pick out the seeds and the stems was a thing of the past. Damn writing this made me super nostalgic. Create an account [-]tsparks1307 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (16 children) Been a smoker for 15 years now (holy shit, I'm getting old) come from a family of potheads that have been smoking since the 60's, I've got an uncle that's grown for years, cousins in Michigan that grow for a dispensary. "Kind Bud" was never an actual strain. KB was an umbrella term for high-quality cannabis that was typically grown using controlled methods where in the past, most cannabis was grown "naturally" meaning out in a field, or pot-and-dirt indoors leading to loose, seedy, low-to-medium quality cannabis. It wasn't until the 80s that people really started taking growing seriously, and discovered sensimilla, those tight, dense, seedless buds, where the female was allowed to bud, but not be fertilized. This lead to the misconception of sensimilla being an actual strain, and people would often refer to this as "Kind Bud" do it's high potency, and lack of seeds. The name stuck until about mid-2000s and high quality cannabis started becoming widely available and numerous strains were being produced. The term "Kind Bud" gradually left the vernacular as growers and smokers became more and more educated about different strains and their effects, and sensimilla became dominant. Tl;DR: There is no strain called "Kind Bud" and never was. But I'm a little confused because the KB I got had a specific smell and tons of orange hairs. It never differed in smell, density, or appearance. It was the same in my home state as it was at my cousins house a few states away when I went to go visit him every summer. I'm sure your familiar with the popular strain of bud called Blue Dream. Blue dream wouldn't differ in appearance just because you got it from cali opposed to Colorado. Could be wrong, but if someone says they have a specific strain it always seems to have the same characteristics. I'm just curious as to why the KB I was exposed too never differed. It was consistently the same over a four year period of time. It was one of the first to be called "Kind Bud" and had a very distinct smell and appearance that its descendants carried with them. It exploded in popularity on the west coast in the mid-90s and spread around. Descendents of that Paki OG are a staple of dispensary crops all over the world now. It's been the mother of a few different hybrid lines via seed producers, and my friend has diligently kept mothers generation after generation. My point here is, aside from variations in later bloom techniques and NPK and sugars, it's the same kind that it was back in the day. I get so tired of people claiming that marijuana is different today (stronger, weaker, has different effects) when I know from personal experience that it isn't. Apparently there are large numbers of pot smokers who have never experienced tge result of proper cultivation before. Prohibition caused that, of course.
