I left my computer on the top of my desk during the night and the next day I opened it the screen had 2 small cracks on the right which damaged the functioning of the screen. I contacted an authorized apple center which told me apple warranty would not cover it as it is a contact point crack; as if I have left something the size of a rice berry between the screen and the keyboard... It is absurd as I have nothing like it on my desk and the computer was properly closed as usual and didn't move the whole night. More than the price of repairing it , it is frustrating that apple doesn't believe its costumers. I wonder if anyone had the same problem or if it is due to a design flaw, I have several Mac product and never had a similar problem, my last Mac lasted 10 years with no issues. He wasn't aware of the problems reported here. When I asked him directly, he did recommend using a sleeve to contain the MBA rather than a hard shell case, even though Apple sells a hard shell case for the MBA in their store. I can guess that a hard shell case contains the heat otherwise dissipated through the aluminum exterior and that extra heat may contribute to the screen cracking. The one semi-useful thing I gleaned is that Apple has "service programs" to organize repairing products that manifest design flaws. Info is at https://support.apple.com/service-programs How to enter the MacBook Air into such a program remains a mystery. (I've sent this comment on to Apple in response to their customer service follow-up survey.) I am not planning to give up. doesn't make any sense that a computer that is brand new and sitting on the desk can break this way. If they have problems with the retina screen they just need to admit that. I'm an Apple costumer for years and now it makes me think, maybe they became so big that they just ignoring there costumers. Phillips User level: Level 9 (63,639 points) Jul 13, 2021 6:47 AM in response to lal14 In response to lal14 IMHO - the Design of the MBA M1 is very good. The Lid is connected to the body via two hinges on either side. By Apple design - it can be opened with one hand using the Slot as per picture below. The slot is in the Centre Top of Lid. Using one hand to open applies Equal Force to both hinges at the same time. Therefore, there is no torque energy to one side of the lid or the other. The same process ( IMHO ) should be done when closing the Lid. Doing otherwise , one corner or the other with one hand placing all the energy on one hinge, tongue energy comes into play and thusly the Cracking in Screen. I purchased my m1 macbook air in November 2021. No warnings in the packaging about how to avoid a cracked screen. And then 2 or 3 weeks ago, it happened. A spontaneous crack in the lower left part of my screen, with no apparent cause whatsoever, except for maybe the inherent design flaw in the macbook air. Apple, take responsibility for this issue! First time it was replaced for free, the second time I was charged more than $400. The last two times the laptop was just sitting on a table with the lid closed overnight and when I opened it in the morning the screen had cracks. I did a search online and it looks like there is at least one class-action lawsuit regarding this, maybe more. I had my computer on my desk and when I opened it the device would not turn on. I went to an authorized Apple retailer and they told me there was a crack, but it was so small I couldn't even see it. I contacted numerous Apple associates and none of them were helpful. I had to pay $578 for a repair and ended up trading it back in because I had such a terrible experience with the device. Apple needs to take responsibility for this wide-spread issue. My Macbook Pro was working fine last night. I closed the laptop before going to bed, used it all day with an external monitor and the laptop closed without issue. When I opened it tonight, there was a dark leaf-shape in the bottom left of the screen with lines emanating horizontally and vertically. There is no external sign of impact and I'm not aware of any event that would have damaged it. I'm headed to an Apple store tomorrow and have AppleCare, but this is a concerning issue that should not happen to an expensive and well-cared-for laptop. The staff at Genius Bar took a glance and said the damage must've been done by myself, there's no reason it would crack without applying pressure from outside, refused the repair under warranty, let alone exchange or refund. To my observation, their protocol seems to be that, if there's only one crack, there might be room for negotiation, but if there's divarication, they would turn down the claim immediately. Some of the Chinese customers also noticed the problem, but all the gaslighting, from the staff and other Apple fans on the internet, implying that "it must be your fault, you just don't wanna admit it because it's gonna cost" almost made me think that I must have missed something, like there's object left on the keyboard but I forgot. Then I found this thread and report regarding the class action. The staff replied that unless Apple decides to recall, I have to pay the price for the replacement of screen. Extremely disappointed in Apple this time, I used my previous Macbook for almost 7 years without any problem, so I updated the product just to find out the unsatisfying quality within 2 months. I wouldn't even consider repairing the screen because who knows if it would happen next time? there's no point if you need to take care your laptop with extreme caution. Won't purchase any Apple product in the future. Apple store in Watford have charged me PS719 for the replacement screen. Will be a week until I get my MacBook back. Under a microscope they can see a small pressure point at the extreme edge of the display. I really can't remember trapping anything in the display. Double guessing myself now. I need it repaired so had no choice but to pay up. I'll get Apple cover plus next time I buy a MacBook.
