I have a long history with GNOME, but I really liked what the team did with COSMIC in 21.04. Developing a new DE from scratch is not a small undertaking, but would allow the team to deliver a more focused Linux experience for their target user base (avoiding the tension that likely exists with GNOME). I personally look forward to it, as I do like both gnome and kde, and it'd be cool if it were able to land in a good area between the two in terms of how they both are. Theyre also a true enterprise that doesnt need to simply wait for more contributors to provide dev resources - they can just hire more devs. It would be a waste if all they concerned themselves with was the desktop and they couldnt do better than everyone else. It's a notoriously hard DE to customize a distro around. Since I then I have tried to go 100% Linux, including my laptop, many times but ultimately always ended up with either a Windows or MacOS laptop.
