Environmental Defense Fund President Fred Krupp today announced plans
to develop and launch a new satellite purpose-built to identify and
measure methane emissions from human-made sources worldwide, starting
with the oil and gas industry.

MethaneSAT Picks SpaceX as Launch Provider for Mission to Protect
Earth's Climate

January 13, 2021

The nonprofit MethaneSAT LLC announced today that it has signed a
contract with SpaceX to deliver its new satellite into orbit aboard a
Falcon 9 rocket. Now under construction after completing an intensive
design process, the MethaneSAT instrument is on schedule for a launch
window that opens October 1, 2022.

MethaneSAT Completes Critical Design Review, Moves into Production
Phase

MethaneSAT has reached an important new milestone with completion of
the Critical Design Review (CDR) phase for both the mission's remote
sensing instrument and the spacecraft platform "bus" that will
provide power and maneuvering, and transmit the vast stream of data
from the high resolution sensors to ground stations.
