For example, I can open a tweet that has been linked on another site, but as soon as I click on the profile or another tweet I am greeted with the login menu. It's very clear that Twitter wants to go the same route as Facebook: Unusable unless logged in. Login requirement in action. It's from my phone but I have gotten this last week on my PC, too. EDIT: Workarounds (thanks to everyone in the comments) * Open tweet in new tab * disable cookies for twitter.com * Use Nitter instances (although Twitter heavily rate-limits them last time I used it) 245 comments share save hide report 98% Upvoted Log in or sign up to leave a comment Log InSign Up Sort by: best View discussions in 5 other communities [renderTimi] level 1 * 1d So they need more of our data. This is going to be annoying. 170 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 22h data "data". Why not just have burner / troll accounts and poison the well? 60 Reply Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 2 * 15h They have all the data they need, they are just trying get you to eat some ads. 4 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 * 22h I'd rather never view a tweet again than re-sign up for Twitter. 233 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 14h Especially because like Facebook they require phone number for account creation or if you just sign-up with an email they'll quickly lock your account ,,for suspicious activity" the same way Facebook does. But unlike with Facebook, I had luck with Twitter support to just active my account again by telling them I don't have a mobile phone number. /u/watertheory /u/trigger_segfault 49 Reply Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 2 * 7h Fortunatelly there are services which can follow Twitter tweets without logging in to Twitter. But Twitter could follow Facebook steps and block them. 3 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 * 21h Twitter can GFI. The occasional link from Reddit, for example, will fail due to Pi-hole rules, but catching my careless clicks is one of the things Pi-hole is there to do. Go Pi-hole. 21 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 Cake day * 7h What's GFI? 2 Reply Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 1 * 21h Worse part about this is that when you eventually create an account you have to give them your phone number or else you get locked out. 71 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 18h Paired with the bullshit "Oh no, we detected suspicious activity" to weasel out of saying the obvious. 48 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 15h Really? I created a dummy account to just view tweets and never had to give them a phone number. 13 Reply Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 2 * 9h You don't. I've sucessfully stayed signed up with a factory resetted Android Phone without a Sim Card. Signing up from PC gets you locker out 10/10 times. 1 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 * 21h 4TB I used some ublock config setting and disabled cookies and it went away. 14 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 18h Yeah, disabling cookies (and JavaScript, if necessary) is very helpful in escaping authwalls. 9 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 * 1d Instagram does this too occasionally-I'm not sure what triggers it. 40 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 22h 5TB always, i think. it's never worked for me without a login, but maybe that's 'cause i browse with a vpn? 38 Reply Share ReportSave Continue this thread level 2 * 17h When you scroll down someones page far enough it prompts you to login 10 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 * 1d 48TB Raid6 Best idea in a long time. Will lock the cesspool Twitter behind its own login wall and will prevent its shit from spreading anywhere. Maybe that gives society a chance again. 335 Reply Share ReportSave level 2 * 1d Well, no. They, of course, will made exclusion for google. So any search for anything you need will bring you many results you will be unable to look until login. (exactly same behavior for which your own site would be banned by google forever) 118 Reply Share ReportSave More posts from the DataHoarder community Continue browsing in r/DataHoarder r/DataHoarder This is a sub that aims at bringing data hoarders together to share their passion with like minded people. 519k Members 2.0k Online --------------------------------------------------------------------- Created May 10, 2013 Join helpReddit coinsReddit premiumReddit gifts aboutcareerspressadvertiseblogTermsContent policyPrivacy policyMod policy Reddit Inc (c) 2021 .
