Learn more Leica is Launching a Smartphone, With a Massive Lens and Magnetic Lens Cap The Leitz 1: Don't drop it By Rain Noe - June 21 * Y1 * m1 * U1 * H1 Japanese telecom company Softbank has announced they'll be the first, and perhaps only, brand to carry a new smartphone from Leica. The Leitz 1, as you'd expect from its parentage, has a massive 20-megapixel, 1-inch sensor and so much glass that it comes with a magnetic lens cap. [1193626_81] [1193625_81] [1193627_81] [1193628_81] The 5G phone has a 6.6-inch screen and runs a whopping Y=187,920 (USD $1,700). [1193630_81] [1193632_81] [1193633_81] [1193631_81] Engadget reports that the Leitz 1 is a rebranded Sharp Aquos R6, which has the identical Leica-made sensor; however, there do appear to be visual differences in the physical design, and according to Specs-Tech the R6 retails for about USD $664. [1193637_81] The video below gives you a better look at the Leitz 1 in 3D: No word on whether this will eventually make its way to the U.S. market. * o Favorite * Q 1 Comment * & Leica is Launching a Smartphone, With a Massive Lens and Magnetic Lens Cap * [avatars366] Matt Levine an hour ago Z Z Reply Pretty cool, but I feel, if I want to take more serious pics, I'd rather have a stand-alone camera. !Report as spam Share your thoughts [avatars145] Rain Noe I'm a lapsed industrial designer.
