Known Medicine is helping oncologists pick the best treatment for
cancer patients, faster. Using a patient's own tumor sample, we are
able to give oncologists insight into how their cells will respond to
different treatments. We combine cutting edge high throughput biology
with AI to solve the hardest problems in cancer treatment. Our

About the role

Known Medicine

Known Medicine is creating the world's largest purpose-built 3-D cell
culture data set to predict the best drug for every cancer patient
and create the best drug for every cancer.

Our core platform involves creating hundreds of micro tumors from a
patient's tumor cells. We treat each with different drugs and
combinations then analyze images of the cells responding to treatment
to see what works best. Through the marriage of biology and data
science we are able to generate the largest 3D cell culture dataset
of its kind and use it to make biological, computational and clinical
insights.

We're a seed-stage startup backed by Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures,
Cota Capital, Caffeinated Capital, and other top funds and angels.
Our team encompasses clinical affairs, bioengineering, and data
science and is quickly growing.

The Role

We're generating hundreds of thousands of images of cells, many with
labeled outcomes of whether the patient actually responded to
treatment. We're building out our team to analyze our experiments,
evaluate assay conditions, and make increasingly sensitive
predictions of patient response. You'll have the opportunity to make
a massive difference in how our platform is run and ultimately, how
people with cancer are treated.

You will be the first hire on our engineering team, joining our
technical founders. Your responsibilities will include: Help automate
our image processing Work with our CTO and biologists to monitor and
troubleshoot analysis of images Help build out and productionize ML
models

Your Background

3+ years experience in data science, data engineering, ML
engineering, or similar Bachelor's degree in CS, Math, or similar
Demonstrated ability to work independently and aid in company
prioritization

Who You'll Join

Our team comprises biomedical engineers, AI for drug discovery data
scientists, and a clinical and regulatory affairs expert building our
high throughput platform. We're developing a fully automated
diagnostics pipeline in our 4,300 sq ft Salt Lake City, UT lab and
have research collaborations with several top cancer centers. We

Technology

We use AI and image analysis to determine what cancer treatment works
best-- beyond just whether cells live or die as a result of a
chemotherapy. We look for cells that are dying, cells that are
responding to immune stimuli, and ways cells cluster together
functionally that can indicate patient treatment response. We've
developed every part of our system to be high-throughput friendly,
from the biomaterials to the micro-tumor creation to the drug
addition.
