For the end user the Desktop Environment authored by Microsoft, Windows, is like watching television. Click one channel and watch videos. Click, Email, Click, MS's Internet channel, etcetra, ad nausieam. Every "channel" engineered to entice the user into staying in the MS silo. Linux, even moderately understood, is like being in a swarm of bees. Sure, your can sorta hide them behind a thin bee-keeper's veil (DE), but untimately the end user is responsible for the entire hive. As I believe it should be. Please, please continue to make Linux worthy of our respect.
