Word History
Etymology: French, from Middle French, rebirth, from Old French renaistre to be
born again, from Latin renasci, from re- + nasci to be born

"...marked by a humanistic revival of classical influence expressed in
a flowering of the arts and literature and by the beginnings of
modern science"

The term renaissance of course focuses heavily on its historical
heritage. They were amazing times that evolved out of an even more
difficult history and substance. By some telling, our times are just
as difficult, filled with issues of our current days.

As a Renaissant I believe that the rebirth of vigorous art and
intellectual pursuits on a daily basis is necessary for the health and
growth of Society. Having the benefit of growing up in an environment
where such values were re-inforced and then attending a Liberal Arts
College provided me with sense of how all things are interconnected.
Not that I know every interconnection, but I am aware of the
relationship of disciplines.

For me it is easy to use this sense of 'interconnectedness' to then
shape my entire world view. As a society, a world Society, it becomes
clear that we are one people. As such I believe that as a Renaissant
I am responsible, in my part, to ensur the growth and furtherance of
our Society that serves all of us, as individual people.
