In the case of Scranton the committee in a short time after its organization
secured $8,000 of its $12,000 apportionment. By reason of a serious mine disaster in
the vicinity of Scranton the members of the committee were compelled to devote their
efforts to the raising of a large relief fund. The Red Cross has therefore accepted the
$8,000 as completing Scranton’s apportionment.
