Xircom Ethernet PC Card
Installation

Note: The technical information in this online documentation is valid for the following Xircom products: RealPort2 Ethernet 10/100, RealPort Ethernet 10/100, RealPort Ethernet 10, CreditCard Ethernet 10/100, and CreditCard Ethernet 10.

This section provides the following information and instructions:

Installing Xircom Hardware

  1. Plug the Xircom Ethernet PC Card into the PC Card slot on your computer, and connect cables, as shown in the Installation Guide.
  2. Proceed to the software installation instructions for your operating system:

Installing Ethernet Software

Driver installation procedures vary for each operating system. The following operating systems are supported:

Windows 2000

For information on how to upgrade your Xircom drivers for Windows 2000, see Troubleshooting.
  1. With Windows running, connect cables and insert the Xircom Ethernet PC Card into the PC Card slot as shown in the Installation Guide.
  2. When you insert the card, the Found New Hardware message will appear, followed by the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog. Click Next.
  3. On the Install Hardware Device Drivers screen, your Xircom Ethernet PC Card will be listed. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click Next.
  4. On the Locate Driver Files screen, select the Specify a location check box. All other options should be cleared (unchecked). Click Next.
  5. In response to the message "Insert the manufacturer's installation disk...," insert the Xircom compact disc and type the path to your CD-ROM drive (for example, if your CD-ROM drive is E, type E:\), and then click OK.
  6. On the Driver Files Search Results screen, click Next again to install the driver displayed. On the next screen, click Finish. Do NOT restart the computer.
    If you receive a Digital Signature Not Found message, click Yes to continue the installation. If you click No the installation will be terminated.
  7. Click Start, and then Run. Type the path to the SETUP.EXE program on the Xircom compact disc (for example, if your CD drive is E, type E:\SETUP.EXE), and then click OK. 
  8. From the menu that appears, click an item and follow the onscreen instructions. To access Xircom utilities or view online documentation after running SETUP, click Start, Programs, and then Xircom Utilities. You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator installed to view the online documentation.
  9. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
  10. After Windows reloads, you can log on to the network.

Windows 98

  1. With Windows running, connect cables and insert the Ethernet PC Card into the PC Card slot as shown in the Installation Guide.
  2. When you insert the card, the Add New Hardware Wizard appears.
  3. Insert the Xircom compact disc and click Next.
  4. Choose Search for the best driver... and click Next.
  5. Select CD-ROM drive and click Next.
  6. Click Next again to install the driver displayed. Click Finish. Do NOT restart the computer.
  7. To copy online documentation and install Xircom utilities, click Start, then Run. Type the path to the SETUP.EXE program on the Xircom compact disc (for example, if your CD-ROM drive is E, type E:\SETUP.EXE), and then click OK. 
  8. From the menu that appears, click an item and follow the onscreen instructions. To access Xircom utilities or view online documentation after running SETUP, click Start, Programs, and then Xircom Utilities. You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator installed to view the online documentation.
  9. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
  10. After Windows reloads, you can log on to the network.

Windows 95

  1. With Windows running, connect cables and insert the Ethernet PC Card into the PC Card slot as shown in the Installation Guide.
  2. When you insert the card, the Update Device Driver Wizard appears. 
  3. Insert the Xircom compact disc and click Next. 
  4. Accept the driver detected and click Finish. If this is your first network installation, you will be asked to type in a unique name for your computer and a network workgroup name which should be obtained from your network administrator. 
  5. If prompted for additional files, click OK, and then type the path to the Xircom compact disc (for example, E:\) and click OK. Do NOT restart the computer. 
  6. Click Start, and then Run. Type the path to the SETUP.EXE program on the Xircom compact disc (for example, if your CD-ROM drive is E, type E:\SETUP.EXE), and then click OK. 
  7. From the menu that appears, click an item and follow the onscreen instructions. To access Xircom utilities or view online documentation after running SETUP, click Start, Programs, and then Xircom Utilities. You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator loaded to view the online documentation.
  8. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
  9. After Windows reloads, you can log on to the network.

Windows NT 4.0

  1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and log on as Administrator.
  2. Insert the Ethernet PC Card compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Select Network from the Control Panel.
  4. Select the Adapters tab and click Add.
  5. On the Select Network Adapters screen, click Have Disk. Insert the Xircom compact disc and type the path to your CD-ROM drive. Click OK.
  6. Select "Xircom Ethernet 10/100," and click OK.
  7. At the Xircom Ethernet Adapter Setup screen, choose appropriate settings. Click OK.
  8. At the Network screen click Close.
  9. At the Network Settings Change screen, click Yes. The computer will shut down and restart.
  10. To view a menu of additional options, run SETUP from the Xircom compact disc. Click a menu item and follow the onscreen instructions.
    To access Xircom utilities or view online documentation after running SETUP, click Start, Programs, Xircom Utilities. You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator installed to view the online documentation.

Windows 3.x

  1. From the Program Manager, choose File, then Run. In the Command Line box, type the path to the INSTALL.EXE program on the Xircom compact disc (for example, if your CD-ROM drive is E, type E:\INSTALL.EXE.
  2. Press Enter or click OK.
  3. Make a selection from the list displayed and click OK.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. To view a menu of additional options, run SETUP from the Xircom compact disc. Click a menu item and follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. To access Xircom utilities or view online documentation after running SETUP, click Start, Programs, Xircom Utilities. You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator installed to view the online documentation.

IBM OS/2 Installation (Warp 3.0 and 4.0) Using the NDIS or ODI Driver  

Installation Steps for Warp 3.0 and 4.0 (NDIS driver)

  1. Remove OS/2’s Card and Socket Services according to IBM’s instructions.

  2. By default, the NDIS driver will be installed. If you wish to install the ODI client, the Novell Client installation program should be used. See the OS/2 ODI Client install section for instructions.

  3. Run MPTS (Multi-Protocol Transport Services). For Warp 3.0, MPTS is on the desktop. For Warp 4.0, MPTS is in System Setup.

  4. In the MPTS window, click on Configure

  5. In the Configure window, select the LAN adapter and protocols radio button, then click on Configure.

  6. In the LAPS Configuration window, in the Network Adapter section, click on Other Adapter.

  7. Set the path as A:\OS2 and click OK.

  8. Back at the LAPS Configuration window, in the Network Adapter section, select Xircom Ethernet Adapter by clicking on it and then clicking Add.

  9. In the Protocols section, select the protocols you wish to use by clicking on the protocols and then clicking Add.

  10. In the Current Configuration section, click on Xircom Ethernet Adapter and click edit to edit the driver settings.  The default settings for the product will be displayed. Generally, the default settings should be used. The most important to check are INT and SOCKET. If there is a conflict, these should be adjusted using trial and error.

  11. After reviewing the settings, click OK.

  12. Click OK again

  13. Click close

  14. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation.

In Warp 4.0, a free interrupt can be found by running Hardware Manager (under System Setup). Under IRQ, look for a free one (the program shows which interrupts are being used).

Installation Steps for Warp 3.0 and 4.0 (ODI driver)

  1. Remove OS/2’s Card and Socket Services according to IBM’s instructions.

  2. In order to install Xircom’s OS/2 ODI driver, the Novell NetWare Client for OS/2 installation disks are needed. Insert disk 1 of the OS/2 client installation disks (the  WSOS2_1 disk) in the floppy drive and run INSTALL.

  3. In the NetWare Workstation for OS/2 Installation Utility window, click the Installation menu item and select the Requester on Workstation option.

  4. In the ‘Set Target Directory’ Windows, set the destination directory (default is c:\netware) and click OK.

  5. In the ‘Requester Installation’ window, select the option ‘Edit config.sys and copy all files’ and click OK.

  6. In the ‘Step 1- choose the ODI LAN Driver’ window, click on the list box to display the list of LAN drivers. An Installation Message window will appear. Load  the Xircom CD-ROM, verify or type the correct path to the CD-ROM, and click OK.

  7. In the list box, enter CE3ODI.OS2 as the LAN driver to install, and click Continue.

  8. The Installation Message window will reappear. Re-insert the NetWare Client disk in the floppy drive (disk WSOS2_1) and click OK.

  9. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of the NetWare Client for OS/2 software.
