This directory contains a shell script to demonstrate the use of the
indexing program for a variety of document types. The documents
themselves are in separate subdirectories below this one.

The script test.waisindex creates four WAIS databases:

test-Bool - an index of 3 small, slightly different documents to
illustrate the Boolean capability. Try searching on "black and fox".
In addition, this database illustrates the use of synonyms. The file
test-Bool.syn contains synonyms for the words "rat" and "dog". You can
search for "lazy dog" or "lazy mutt" and get the same documents back,
even though only the word "dog" appears in any of the documents.

test-Comp - an index of a compressed mail folder to demonstrate the
"mail_or_rmail" document type, and that the indexer handles compressed
source files transparently.

test-Docs - an index of all of the files in the doc directory, showing
the indexing of plain ASCII documents and the directory recurse switch.

test-Multi - an index of a small set of GIF images and accompanying text
caption files, to show the multiple document-type capabilites. You
probably need to use the X client (or Mosaic) to be able to select
either document types - the other clients in this package don't support
multiple document types yet. Try searching on "gumby".
