This year I am growing fewer herbs. Last year had some huge family
losses. This is a year of healing. The herbs will help with that,
but I am not digging deep to plant everything I can mange. In fact,
I reconsidered my approach to herb farming. This year, and maybe
beyond, I am planning to nurture all the perennial herbs I already
have planted and plant a few more to focus on a medicine forest
ecological approach. I will still plant a few annual herbs that
I find too useful to skip.
For 2023 I will care for:
Annuals:
Ashwagandha (Withania somniferia),
Tulsi (Ocimum spp.), Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Wild lettuce
New perennials:
I'm adding 8 elderberry bushes of named varieties both Sambucus
canadensis and Sambucus nigra.
Perennials from last year:
Nettle (Urtica dioica), Plantain (Plantago major),
Catnip (Nepeta cataria), Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis),
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis), St. Johnswort (Hypericum perfora
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense),
Elderberry (Sambucus spp.), Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.)
