# Starting Seeds - Part 1 2022-03-22 This is just the first round of many rounds of starting seeds for transplantation into a place in the garden. Today I started about 50 Urtica dioica (stinging nettle), about 35 Leonorus cardiaca (Motherwort), and 15 Calendula officinalis (calendula). I'll be watching these for signs of life and I'll let you know how it goes. # Vital stats 1. Nettle a. Perennial b. Stratify 21 days c. Germinates in 7 - 10 days d. Soil: Rich, damp to watter logged. Tolerant of sun and shade. e. Requires about 30cm or 12 inches between plants. Up to 122cm or 4 feet tall. 2. Motherwort a. Perennial b. Stratify 21 days c. Germinates in 7 - 21 days d. Soil: Average, perfers some shade e. Requires about 46cm or 18 inches between plants. Up to 152cm or 5 feet tall. 3. Calendula a. Perennial, but short lived b. Stratify 0 days c. Germinates in 10 - 15 days d. Soil: well drained, full sun e. Requires about 40cm or 16 inches between plants. Up to 60cm or 2 feet tall.
