Appreciate as much or as little you get. There is someone somewhere paying for that or donating that. There are people who have put their personal life on hold to get it to you. Show some gratitude. It is not an entitlement to improving your life to a better standard of living then what you had before the disaster. It\rquote s not even a entitlement to get you back to where you were. YOU have to do something. If you made your 26-year-old mother a grandmother, twice, then your life is always going to suck. So will your offspring. If you are a crack addict, a felon, etc, then your life will always suck. Unless YOU make some changes you have a problem bigger then a hurricane.\par 4. The next time you hear the word \ldblquote Hurricane\rdblquote on tv or radio PAY ATTENTION! Every weather person in the nation was talking for 5 days about these. On tv they show a picture with projections on where these storms were going to hit. Here is a clue, IF you live between the two outer lines you need to start getting ready. That means first and foremost, GET A FULL TANK OF GAS. Call your cousin in Birmingham, Memphis, St Louis, and Chicago and ask if they can put you up for a few days.\par 5. Try to be the first one out. There are more options when you are the first to evacuate. You have some control. Last one gets hind tit, whatever and whenever. No options. You owe it to your kids. If you don\rquote t understand this then your kids have a bigger problem then a hurricane.\par 6. This is a good point to insert this. Don\rquote t gamble! At best It\rquote s only your life. At worst it\rquote s the lives of your children. The mayor of New Orleans gambled that folks would be in the Superdome and Civic Center for only a few hours and then they would go home. That\rquote s why he didn\rquote t let the Red Cross set up and stock those shelters. That\rquote s why he didn\rquote t use the school buses. He was more concerned with possible criticism (over money spent) had he used those assets and the storm was a flop like so many before. He lost that bet. If you can\rquote t learn from other people\rquote s mistakes then you have bigger problems then a hurricane.\par 7. Elect reasonable adults to run your local and state governments. Stop looking at elections from the \ldblquote what\rquote s in it for me\rdblquote . See number 1 above. Do not accept corruption.\par 8. Afterwards take care of yourselves and your community. Get off your ass and help. Be part of the solution. If you are in a shelter, volunteer to help out on the food line. No one is there to serve your every need even though they will try. We all have one. They are assigned at birth. We have no control over it. Look at the people that made this a racial thing. How do they make their living? Look at the majority of the people doing the rescuing. Now look at the majority of people getting rescued. Look at whose extending help and relief. Do you see the ACLU? NAACP? LULAC? NO!!
