My latest project putting old junk together with other old junk and creating something moderately modernly useful. I present to you the Internet Connected World Radio. 200W of audio power, 7" screen, runs Linux, has enough USB ports to add on whatever goodies you want to charge or use.
Right now it still plugs into the wall, I want to figure out a battery and a permanent case for it still. Right now everything is just double-sided taped into place. It boots up and with a mouse plugged in, you can pick from thousands of radio stations around the world.
The next step is to add a cheap microphone and AI for controls. I don't want any mouse or keyboard, I just want to talk to it to control it.
PS, yes that is duct tape. I packed it with fiberfill to improve the sound quality, then backed it with a piece of cardboard and taped all the guts (mostly 5v and 12v power adapters) up inside the original speaker case.
PPS, so far, zero solder used. My iron is a piece of intermittent heating garbage and I am sick of wasting time trying to use it, so Everything is just hand twisted and taped for now. Eventually when i get a project box to mount everything in I will switch to those suitcase clips or whatever they are called to connect bare wires together.
