PERSONAL WEB AND THE WEBMASTER ============================== CULTURAL REFERENCE "Webmaster" was once an ordinary term for the person responsible for a website. In small sites the webmaster might be designer, writer, programmer, system administrator, editor and janitor at once. Personal and hobbyist sites often mixed subjects, aesthetics and tools that would be separated by modern product teams. The result could be ugly, slow or confusing, but it also made authorship visible. The site itself was part of the expression. This archive uses WEBMASTER affectionately to mean someone who shapes a site as an environment rather than only supplying material to a platform template.
