This tree preserves and expands a Nitetime.net conversation from August 2026.
The discussion began with the observation that the public Web had reached a
35-year milestone and quickly became a rant against platform monoculture,
algorithmic feeds, and the reduction of "web presence" to accounts hosted inside
other companies' websites.

The archive is deliberately larger than the source exchange. It treats the
conversation as a seed for world-building and long-term preservation.

REAL / FACTUAL MATERIAL

Files under /reference are intended to be factual and conservative. Essays and
operator notes distinguish argument from history. The historical timeline notes
that there are multiple reasonable milestones for "the birth of the Web."

FICTIONAL MATERIAL
------------------
Files under /lore and some /recovered documents are explicitly Nitetime fiction.
They borrow the language of damaged transmissions, radio logs, Lake Koshkonong,
WISCO 608, the Silence, the Rotating Grid, Ace Nitetime and Jack Static.

HIDDEN MATERIAL
---------------
A few selectors are intentionally absent from gophermaps. Clues are embedded in
ordinary documents. This is not a mistake and the validator knows about them.
