Watching an interesting video about how NYC yellow cabs are back in a big way. Turns out the Uber and Lyft model just doesn't work for Manhattan.
When those services first came out, everyone rushed to use them. Nobody stopped to ask why we already had a perfectly good system. Now people are realizing the downsides of "the app life" and going back to the old, better manual method. You stand on the street, raise your hand, shout "Taxi!" and boom, you get a ride immediately at a reasonable price.
Meanwhile with apps, you open it, wait 5 to 20 minutes, and then get hit with surge pricing because they feel like it. Somehow people thought that was faster.
I hate apps.
Is anyone ever actually happy when a business tells them to install another app? Maybe I'm just bitter because apps are basically websites wrapped in a privacy-stripping shell. The public got duped into using them instead of just visiting the website in Safari or Chrome.
I swear, most apps are just websites with your privacy removed.
