THE ORGAN OVERLAY AND LIGHT SHOW =============================== NITETIME ORGAN SYSTEM // OBS PRESENTATION The organ broadcast has a transparent browser overlay designed to sit over video in OBS. It is not a second player and it does not listen to a microphone. It follows the same MIDI timeline that drives the instrument. NOW PLAYING =========== The main information card can show: title and attribution verified fact request or event label broadcast uptime song elapsed time and duration MIDI format and tracks meter and tempo voice mode and active channels program map up-next information The card hides during shutdown, failure states and station interstitials. This keeps the display from claiming that a song is playing when the organ is between performances. THE NOTE TIMELINE ================= For each current song, the server publishes compact timestamped events: seconds from song start, event kind, note/controller, value, channel The timeline includes note-on, note-off and sustain events. MIDI ticks are converted into seconds by integrating the global tempo map, so tempo changes remain visible at the correct moment. Events occurring at the same tick retain their source order. THE KEYBOARD =========== The visual keyboard covers the ordinary piano range. White and black keys use fixed geometry; performance is shown through changing light rather than moving keys. Channel colors repeat in a six-color palette, allowing the technical BUS labels and keyboard lights to agree. Attack is quick, release is softer and sustain holds the visual note until the pedal event releases it. The display can report active-note count, a basic chord or pitch-class cluster, active melodic channels and sustain state. Chord recognition is intentionally modest and display-only. It is not presented as a definitive musical analysis. PERCUSSION ========== Channel 10 is routed to a separate percussion rack rather than the piano keyboard. Percussion notes are grouped into kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals, hand percussion, bells and effects. Pads brighten according to velocity and fade quickly after the hit. THE TRANSPARENT LIGHT SCULPTURE =============================== Behind the information card, a full-screen transparent canvas turns the timeline into abstract light: harmonic ribbons from pitch spread and energy beams positioned by pitch and brightened by velocity a tempo-breathing halo percussion pressure rings short note-on embers The page remains transparent. Additive blending happens inside the light canvas, while the information card remains readable above it. SONG-SPECIFIC VISUAL PROFILES ============================= The server resolves a visual profile from manual metadata first and successful automatic analysis second. Broad presets include default, gothic, happy, rock, electronic, cinematic, classical and Nitetime. The song's content hash then deterministically varies palette, motion, geometry, beam strength and other parameters. Songs in one genre can share an art direction without receiving identical visuals. Specific approved overrides can tune an individual song. TRUTHFUL SYNCHRONIZATION ======================== The overlay does not guess what the organ is doing from a title or schedule. It consumes atomic current state and the matching note timeline. The visual transition is therefore tied to the actual playback record. The result is part broadcast graphics, part oscilloscope, part stained-glass window and part machine telemetry.
