"The Gopher Hole" continues Ace and Jack's walk through the physical
NITETIME.NET archive. They now recognize the place as the file server
itself: cabinets are directories, their drawers are files, and network
cables can be followed like trails.

One trail leads to the Gopher server. The older protocol becomes a cozy
underground reading room assembled from green terminals, numbered menus,
card catalogs, telephone wire, and mechanical indexing equipment. Its
restrained, useful design suits both Jack's practical instincts and the
old-Internet character of Nitetime.

Ace and Jack search the Gopher menu for themselves and find nothing. The
final panel suggests the absence may be temporary, but does not reveal
who--or what--is adding material to the server.
