YESTERDAY'S SURVIVING CHOICE: IMPROVISE

Amid the smoke and flames, I found a half-busted metal panel and a crumpled
jacket. Using the panel as a shield and wetting part of the jacket with the
remains of a spilled water bottle, I cleared enough fire to squeeze through.
The heat scorched my arms and I choked on ash, but the plan worked -- barely.


THE ROADS NOT TAKEN
-------------------

  Fight     -- No weapon can cut through an inferno; charging ahead meant
               severe burns or lungs full of smoke.

  Sneak     -- Stealth offered no protection from collapsing floor panels
               and a sudden flashover.

  Persuade  -- Calling out would waste oxygen and invite a burning fall of
               debris -- or a panicked zombie.

  Loot      -- Scorched luggage might contain useful gear, but searching it
               would consume the few remaining seconds before collapse.


ENTER THE COLLAPSED CORRIDOR
----------------------------

The next car's once-spacious hallway has been mangled by a catastrophic
jolt. Its walls twist inward to form a narrow crawlspace of bent metal and
broken glass. Emergency lights flicker, shadows dance along the debris, and
sparks shower from frayed wires overhead.

I cannot tell whether something living or undead waits on the other side,
but moans echo through the cramped passage. Blood on the wall shows that
someone -- or something -- was dragged across the jagged edges. The air is
stale and claustrophobic. Every movement threatens to shift the wreckage and
bring the corridor down on top of me.


WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
------------------

  Fight     -- Force through the passage, clearing threats by brute force.

  Sneak     -- Crawl slowly and silently without shifting the metal.

  Improvise -- Stabilize the walls or build a safer path from scraps.

  Persuade  -- Call for survivors, or try to scare away what waits beyond.

  Loot      -- Search the debris for tools or something to brace the tunnel.

One loud noise or sudden jolt could turn the passage into my tomb. The next
installment will reveal which choice keeps it from swallowing me whole.
