THE EQUIPMENT YARD

Outside the station are rusted cabinets, a collapsed microwave dish and
a generator housing full of pine needles. The Wisconsin night is cold
and ordinary except for the wire fence, which has no gate and no visible
posts on the far side.

An emergency generator is labeled LOCAL AUXILIARY. Its fuel tank is
empty, but its starter cord is warm.

Beyond the yard, an antenna field leans toward a sky with no stars.
