THE OPERATOR DESK

The desk dates from the 1970s or early 1980s. A coffee mug has fused to
its ring on the wood. A Polaroid camera, cassette recorder and folded
Wisconsin road map sit beside a maintenance notebook.

There is no operator. There is an indentation where a chair has been
used for years, then abandoned in a hurry.

The desk lamp turns on when you place the metal key beside it. Three
drawers unlock: NOTEBOOK, POLAROIDS and CASSETTE.
