THE LADDER

The ladder is made from square steel tubing and old telephone cable. It
descends through concrete, then through a section of black seamless
material that has no visible seam or anchor.

Halfway down, you can still hear the Garage fan. Farther below, you hear
relays working in a pattern that almost resembles rain.

A red mark beside the rungs reads:
