THE SECOND CASSETTE

The cassette begins with a relay clicking. An older operator speaks
close to the microphone:

    If 608 is hearing this, the surface has been selected again.

Paper shuffles.

    The return line is one-way. Maintenance goes inward. Nothing below
    gets a clean path outward.

The voice lowers.

    If the system imitates your ident, do not correct it. Do not answer.
    Let it believe the station is a machine.

At the end, three tones play in a precise sequence. The recorder stops
before the fourth tone.
