You emerge from the lake just before dawn. The water closes behind you.
By the time you reach the garage, Channel 33 has disappeared.

You place the metal key on the workbench. The terminal wakes:

    INCIDENT 33 CLOSED
    KOSHKONONG SHIELD: ACTIVE
    SURFACE ACCESS AUTHORIZED
    RETURN WINDOW: 03:13 TOMORROW
    BRING KEY

Behind you comes a heavy metallic sound.

    CLUNK.

It came from underneath the workbench. There has never been anything
under it except concrete. There is now a square metal hatch set into the
garage floor.

The key fits the lock perfectly. Stamped into the hatch:

    NODE 608
    BELOW
    RETURN ONLY

You do not open it. Not tonight.

Outside, dawn breaks over Lake Koshkonong. The receiver clicks once.

    SIGNAL ACTIVE

INCIDENT 33 IS CLOSED.
THE RETURN PATH IS OPEN.
