BRINGING THE DIGITAL MARKETPLACE TO THE REAL WORLD =================================================== Why I'm Looking for a Pop-Up Space Published: February 3, 2025 Author: Daniel Conderman Context: Recovered Conderman.Group retail concept and call for a test space Original URL: https://conderman.group/2025/02/bringing-the-digital-marketplace-to-the-real-world-why-im-looking-for-a-pop-up-space/ For years, I've been fascinated by the intersection of commerce, entertainment, and technology: how people buy and sell, how communities interact, and how the digital world is shaping retail. Live-auction platforms have proven that people love the energy of live commerce, but the physical connection is missing. I am looking for a real location with real people -- not another basement livestream, but an interactive space where online and offline selling merge. I want to test the idea in a short-term pop-up. THE VISION: A NEW KIND OF MARKETPLACE ------------------------------------- Imagine walking through a mall and seeing large televisions in the windows, streaming an auction happening in real time. Inside, people bring collectibles, old treasures, and unusual items to be auctioned to a national audience. In-person visitors and online buyers both participate. This is not only about selling. It is about bringing fun back into shopping and making the mall a place to be again, rather than a backdrop for nostalgia. A store combining online auctions with an in-person experience could show that people want more than an app: they want a place to go and take part. WHY A POP-UP? ------------- I do not need a multi-year lease to learn whether the idea has legs. Give me a month. If it works, great; if it does not, I will have learned something valuable. Blending live online selling with a physical presence could breathe new life into retail space and benefit both a mall and its community. I am looking for a space with: * large windows for visibility; * high ceilings for an open, energetic setting; and * a flexible lease permitting a genuine short-term test. Retail is not dead; it needs reinvention. This would be a real business experiment with real people, products, and potential -- part digital, part physical, and fully interactive. Let's build something new and prove it out.
