DAN CONDERMAN AND THE NITETIME WORLD

Nitetime.net is difficult to reduce to one category because its
categories are connected on purpose.

It is an independent broadcast station, an experimental music
project, an art practice, a collection of working Internet services,
a retro-computing laboratory, a Wisconsin science-fiction setting,
and an archive built for wandering.

Daniel "Dan" Conderman, also known musically as DJRC, built and
operates it. The project grew through continual experiments rather
than a product roadmap. A stream needed a station identification.
The station needed music. The music needed pictures. A retro site
suggested a BBS; the BBS suggested IRC; IRC suggested Gopher. The
archive suggested recovered transmissions. The fictional station
eventually became a place a visitor could enter through a MUD.

Infrastructure became storytelling.
Storytelling became infrastructure.

The result is a small independent Internet inside the modern
Internet: places to watch, listen, talk, explore, read, download,
play, and participate without submitting every experience to an
endless feed.
