I gave a lecture about my Egyptian furniture replicas
Several years ago I posted a project about an Egyptian lattice stool I'd made during the lock-down. The warm reception here inspired me to contact various museums and ask to examine a bunch of ancient pieces of furniture first hand. A surprising number gave me access, allowing me to make ever more accurate copies. Fast forward to this last Tuesday and I delivered a one hour lecture/slideshow plus Q&A at the fabulous Museo Egizio in Turin, Italy
It was a mind-blowing experience. This whole thing seems even more incredible when you consider that I'm just a passionate amateur with no serious academic credentials. I've met a lot of wonderful people in the process. This was my first ever live public speaking gig and the subject of my recent AskMe "How did you stop yourself from saying "uuuuh"". Even with the intense nervousness, it was warmly received by the sizable audience in the hall that night. People stayed to chat and seat themselves on a sample stool. Really a dream come true and a direct result of posting that first project here. I'd posted it on other socials and forums where it had been swept away into the content stream without a trace. So thanks! (Lecture actually starts a few minutes into the stream replay)
