The Dropkick Murphys thanked Michael Fanone, the former D.C. Metropolitan Police officer who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as Fanone was spotted wearing a Dropkick Murphys T-shirt in the gallery at the House Judiciary Committee hearing with former special counsel Jack Smith. The T-shirt says "Fighting Nazis Since 1996" [app]

Later, U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, directed his statements to tell Fanone and his fellow Capitol Police officers that Jan. 6 wasn't the fault of President Donald Trump but rather of police leadership.

Fanone feigned a cough then said "Go (blank) yourself."

Fuck every last Nazi with a sharpened spade: I'm willing to give a person leeway for their beliefs, but if they're Nazi racists, they've stopped being a person and started being an abomination. NO QUARTER FOR THE NAZIS.

Not sure if anyone else is looking at Fanone as an ex-cop and putting this exchange somewhere between "You do not, in fact, 'gotta hand it to em'" and "This meme dedicated to the brave fighters of the Columbia Metrojadeen".

He did the most basic act of decency and conscience any cop can do, which is quit being a cop. He did even better by not maintaining a blue wall of silence.

He is someone who initially was fooled by Trump and voted for him, but when faced with the cognitive dissonance he made the right choice. I don't know about y'all, but I'm not gonna purity test my allies as the fascists are beating down my door.

We saw the Dropkick Murphys at Riot Fest this year and as basic as their music can be, those guys are on the side of the angels and it was a helluva show. Cathartic, even.

"Last thing, your hand gestures, Mr. Fanone. You need medication," Nehls said.

Nehls is a former police officer, so I wonder if part of his total disrespect of Fanone is because Fanone broke the blue wall omerta? Well, that and he's an arrogant, patronizing, fascist-supporting, sycophantic moron.

Dropkick Murphys recorded an album of songs by famed Nazi fighter Woody Guthrie a few years back too (Woody also wrote "Shipping Up to Boston" which worked out pretty well for the band).

When the Murphys say they've been fighting Nazis for 30 years, they are not speaking metaphorically. Saw them back in like 2000? 2001? They draw a rowdy crowd, a lot of moshing. It was a small enough space to where kids were dancing up and stage diving, and one dude got up there and started doing that stupid heiling-and-skanking dance skinheads did? Like right in front of the band. A guitarist put his hand on his shoulder and said something to him and this nazi just turns around and punches him.

It was an immediate green light, I remember no hesitation. The entire band just drops their instruments and beats the shit out of this dude on stage. Just an absolute public flogging. Management or whoever had to end the show and throw everybody out because the crowd was heated and really, really wanted at the group that guy came with. There was kind of a brawl, which is when I took my exit.

Anyway, best 20-minute set I've ever seen.

if we talk j6, we talk about fanone and dunn standing up and telling the truth about that day, pushing back against a false narrative. they get credit.

acab notwithstanding.

"...if anyone else is looking at Fanone as an ex-cop" then maybe they need to look a little harder?

Because in re acab, what about Serpico and Ehrmentraut's boy? Yeah, fictional, but do you think there truly really are none like that? That's inane: of course there are.

What about all the nascent Serpicos and Ehrmentraut's boys out there IRL 18 years old, knowing zero and thinking about being cops because there is nothing else to do for a living where they are?

What if you grow up in a shithole state and you don't go to Andover, you go to public school and you don't learn The People's History of the United States, you learn the idiot party line, especially now, when the real history has been made illegal? Do we just write all those people off?

What if you're a basically good-hearted person with delusions that have been deliberately taught to you because it makes you better cannon fodder and better grist for the private prisons mill? Like essentially my entire class of kids every semester I taught 13th grade English in the tiny town abutting the town with the community college?

How are they supposed to know that acab? They've never heard that; they've never heard anything true; they have no fuckin idea.

That poor guy's being crushed in that doorway screaming for mercy while a massive crowd of fuckwits deliberately tries to crush him to death is the single worst piece of sound from the entire circus of imbecility that was that day. It plays in my head all the time and completely drowns out the chorus of "acab" from all the people who have had the fantastic good luck never to have seen that particular hideous piece of footage.

ACAB is a factual statement about the job, as tautological as saying that truck drivers drive trucks. One can always quit one's job as a truck driver--people do it every day! Fanone seems to no longer be employed as a cop/bastard and making some commendable choices.

This is good. Ex-cops are no longer (professional) Bastards. Write that down. Cop is a job you can quit. Ideally before kidnapping people as part of a house-to-house racial sweep but taking a moment to ask yourself if you really need to keep pointing your gun at that schoolchild's face instead of the ground at their feet helps. Even taking your finger off the trigger is a step in the right direction.

Aside: Noted former professional bastard Frank Serpico is an actual human being living in exile in Italy in order to avoid being murdered by the NYPD. Who, as Mr. Serpico's former employer, continue to be bastards as part of their job duties and, one might suspect, out of enthusiastic personal conviction as well.

Whaaaaa...at?!? I had no idea! A real human personage! Every time I counsel myself to stop screwing around on here and go for a walk or something, somebody reveals something amazing I had no idea of and I'm sucked right back in.

Well one thing you can do is to stop telling these kids "actually, you can be a good cop!" and instead yell at them, ACAB. Maybe they'll do something productive with their life like start a hardcore band instead of being a cop.

Or just be worse at your job as a bastard. One can absolutely be fired from a police job for being inadequately violent and having too much empathy!Make like one of the star wars stormtroopers and miss every shot!

You'll get fired eventually, but then you can collect UI and reflect on no longer being a professional bastard. Welcome to the good side! We're honestly pretty annoying but we don't bite and have legal and honest weed! To say nothing of comedy that's actually funny. We always need bass players for the aforementioned hardcore bands.

You can quit!
