I loved this show. Found a lot to relate to here, sadly, hilariously.

Love the music in this. George Benson's Breezin', Bill LaBounty's Livin' it Up...

I loved the show on the whole, even more than ITYSL, which I always felt was about 50% killer, 50% filler. This format really seems to let Robinson indulge his passion for offputting weirdos interacting with more or less normal folks, but the conspiracy theory overstory pushes it into a semi-grounded world.

I know people call everything a smidge off-kilter "Lynchian" but Chair Company really did give me the queasy feeling that we're all walking on thin ice that might crack at any minute and plunge us into a painfully strange alternate reality.

That said, with lots of other media on the go and the release schedule, I'm struggling to remember what the conspiracy was (this might also be design). This is a spoiler-friendly space, but just in case, spoilers...

- A pharma CEO is smuggling in contraband (cheaper? counterfeit?) drugs by removing parts of a chair overseas and filling the cavities with drugs

and/or

- A city councillor is making a mint refurbishing used chairs and reselling them as new

and

- The conspiracy is revealed to Ron not by the chair breaking coincidentally, but because his coworker is also a former high-school classmate that Ron once embarassed by accident, has harboured a grudge, and it turns out has Carrie-type psychokinetic powers, at least according to her babyfaced husband.

I'm not sure if I've forgotten or missed some elements of the conspiracy, if the pharma and refurbishing versions are true or even complementary (maybe the city councillor is refurbishing them after the parts have been re-added after the drugs are out?)

Maybe we're not even meant to understand.
