Based on the manga by Shogo Imamura, who also co-wrote the show with director Michihito Fujii. Currently streaming on Netflix.

We alternate between calling it Samurai Royale and Last Wolf with Cub. I haven't read the manga, so I'm guessing that some of the baddies are demons, although there hasn't been any obvious supernatural stuff yet.
The most unbelievable part is that everyone recognizes each other after so many years apart. I can barely remember what even close friends look like after a few moments of not seeing them, much less childhood friends or battlefield enemies who have totally changed their appearances.

Finished the six episodes last night and didn't realize that it was going to be a "End of Chapter One" situation. Probably should have guessed that from the fact that it is based on a manga.
Maybe no demons? Although it seems that Gentosai has some powers?
